The same site, with its own icon and no browser bar, and the pages you have already read still open with no signal.

What you get

There is no separate app to download

Installing puts International Student Hub on your home screen as its own icon. It opens full screen with no address bar, it is never a version behind the website, and there is nothing to keep updated. It takes a few seconds and about a megabyte.

Three platforms, three ways in

Every one of them takes under a minute.

    Android

    Chrome, Edge, Opera, Samsung Internet

    1. 1Tap Install the app above. If it is not there, open the browser menu ().
    2. 2Choose Install app or Add to Home screen.
    3. 3Confirm. The icon appears with your other apps.

    Nothing to allow and nothing to sideload, and it stays up to date on its own.

    iPhone and iPad

    Safari only. Apple does not let other browsers install a site

    1. 1Open uofaishub.app in Safari.
    2. 2Tap the Share button (a square with an arrow pointing up) at the bottom of the screen, or top right on an iPad.
    3. 3Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.

    Same icon and same full-screen window as Android. There is no file to download, and none is needed.

    Desktop

    Chrome and Edge, on Windows, macOS and Linux

    1. 1Look for the install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar.
    2. 2Or open the browser menu and choose Install, or Apps → Install this site.
    3. 3Safari on macOS uses File → Add to Dock instead.

    It opens in a window of its own, which is useful if you keep the FAQ open while you work. Firefox does not install sites.

What works with no signal

Installed or not, pages you have opened are kept on the device, so they still open in a basement or on the train. This is the honest boundary of that. A directory that quietly shows you last week’s answer is worse than one that says it cannot reach the network.

Works offline

  • Any page you have already opened: the four directories, the FAQ, the club and employer lists, the study spots.
  • The app's own shell. It opens to a real page instead of a browser error.

Needs a connection

  • What's on. Events and announcements are only ever shown live, because a cached answer to “is this still happening” is the one worth getting wrong.
  • Anything behind sign-in. Your dashboard and the admin pages are never stored on the device.
  • Site-wide search, and the pedway map's tiles, on a page you have not opened before.

Student-led research site. Not an official University of Alberta service. Installing it does not sign you in to anything at the University, and it has no access to your ONEcard, your courses or your email. About this site.
